Help build a more impactful Aalto – join Impact Encounters as a student trainee!

Want to strengthen the green transition and societal impact at Aalto University, while gaining hands-on experience in communications, coordination, and strategic collaboration? Join the Impact Encounters project at sustainability team!

Impact Encounters is a multidisciplinary, cross-sectoral project that brings Aalto researchers closer to other societal changemakers—companies, policymakers, and NGOs—through events, collaborative encounters, and impactful storytelling.

We organize initiatives like Aalto’s presence at COP (UN Climate Convention) the business-focused Ratkaisuryhmä events, the Aalto & IPCC dialogue, and climate policy workshops with key national actors. We also support Aalto research teams in developing their sustainability impact narratives.

We’re now looking for two creative, proactive Aalto University students to join us:

  • Communications Trainee: Tell the story of how Aalto shapes a sustainable future.

  • Collaboration Coordinator Trainee: Help build and facilitate encounters between Aalto researchers and societal stakeholders.

Each role can be tailored slightly to the selected person’s strengths and interests.

1) Communications Trainee

With the support of the project team, you will:

  • Plan and produce engaging communication content and storytelling across channels (social media, websites, visuals, short articles).

  • Document and promote events and initiatives, such as Aalto at COP30, Aalto & IPCC, and impact narrative workshops.

  • Help develop a coherent and inspiring sustainability impact narrative for Aalto, contributing to visibility and clarity around Aalto’s contributions to the green transition.

  • Create communication materials for events and encounters and participate actively in them.

  • Support the team in creating clear and accessible summaries of research-based sustainability solutions.

You’re a good fit if you have:

  • Creativity and visual storytelling skills (e.g., Canva, video editing).

  • Interest in sustainability, science communication, and research.

  • A proactive mindset and willingness to explore and simplify complex topics.

  • Strong written and spoken English (Finnish is a plus).

  • Familiarity with Aalto’s research or student life is an advantage

2) Collaboration Coordinator Trainee

With the support of the project team, you will:

  • Help coordinate stakeholder encounters, workshops, and events connecting researchers with businesses, policymakers, or NGOs.

  • Assist in managing event logistics and documentation (scheduling, contacting participants, collecting materials).

  • Actively engage in cross-sectoral networking and help build collaborative bridges within and beyond Aalto.

  • Support the preparation of content and materials for events such as COP30 and Ratkaisuryhmä.

  • Contribute to building and updating databases of collaborators, research teams, and follow-up actions.

You’re a good fit if you have:

  • Excellent organizational skills and a proactive approach.

  • Interest in research, sustainability, and collaboration between academia and society.

  • Good interpersonal communication and ability to facilitate dialogue.

  • Basic experience in project or event coordination is a plus.

  • Fluency in English; Finnish is helpful, especially for local stakeholder interaction.

What we offer:

  • Two part-time (50%) Aalto student positions until 31.12.2025, with a possibility of increased hours during summer.

  • Flexible working hours to fit your studies.

  • Salary €980–1150/month for 50% work time, with Aalto employee perks.
