Systems Engineer

NOTE : At Yousician, we are hiring for one Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) role, but we recognize that job titles can vary across the industry. To reach a broader range of candidates, we have also listed this position under the title Cloud Systems Engineer.
Regardless of which title you apply under, your application will be considered for the same role and reviewed equally. This approach allows us to connect with talented engineers who may identify with different job titles but have the same relevant skill set.
If you're passionate about building reliable, scalable, and high-performing cloud infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you!
Why you should apply
You like solving problems and continuously improving cloud infrastructure. You like to make systems more reliable, more performant, more usable, more secure, and more cost effective so that they work better for customers, dev teams, and yourself. You prefer automations over manual processes and can write your own.
What this role is about
The SRE team at Yousician is responsible for providing reliable infrastructure and CI/CD services for the company and we need someone responsible and reliable to join us in that mission. The team's primary stakeholders are the customers who expect services to be available and product teams who need our services to integrate and deploy their code.
We're not expecting you to be an expert in each of the technologies listed, but you should have solid fundamental skills that allow you to learn new tools and systems quickly. Infrastructure as code, public cloud ops and container orchestration are major components of our work.
As an SRE, you’ll have a unique opportunity to join our ambitious growth company and re-imagine the way music education works. We are hands on with multi-account AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, containers, MongoDB, cloud-native tools like Prometheus, Keda, Grafana and Loki, and CI/CD with Jenkins, Github Actions, and ArgoCD. As we continue our transition from start-up to maturity, there are lots of improvements to drive and projects to own.
We strive to automate repetitive manual labor and distribute interesting and less interesting tasks among the team fairly. People have strengths and interests in different areas, but we’d like everyone to have a good grasp on the different parts of the whole area we’re working on.
What you'll do
- Maintain and troubleshoot our existing infrastructure, which is built with AWS, Docker, EKS Kubernetes, Python, MongoDB, Redis, Grafana, Prometheus, Sentry, Loki, with CI/CD running on Jenkins, GHA, and ArgoCD
- Make continuous improvements to the performance, resilience, scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness of these systems. We have a lot of improvement projects already mapped out, but you will have the backing and agency to introduce your own projects as well!
- Respond to infrastructure requests/issues from internal teams
- You’d be part of an alert rotation schedule, wherein you’d be expected to be responsible for responding to alerts 24/7 at least one week each month.
Who you are
- Above all, we’re looking for a team player who is communicative, collaborative, and nice to work with. Every day we learn and grow, so patience and humility is required. It's a small team and we need to have each other's back
- You are curious, pragmatic, adaptable, reliable and respectful
- You have a keen eye for what could be improved but also the ability to understand priorities when we "have bigger fish to fry"
- You care about reliability, scalability, observability, and security of public-facing systems, and ideally you've worked on projects related to these concepts professionally.
- You have experience working with AWS or any cloud platform. We work primarily with AWS
- You are at least familiar with containers, orchestration tools, and Infrastructure as Code. We use Docker, EKS, and Terraform/Terragrunt
- Experience with Python scripting or similar is preferred.
- Nice-to-haves: CI experience (especially with Jenkins), MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Prometheus, API design, Ansible, Jsonnet, Networking, security, MLops, Unity build experience
what we offer
- You’ll have an opportunity to join our international team, backed by the top VCs and competing with the best education applications in the world
- You'll have a meaningful and profound impact on the lives of millions of musicians and future musicians all around the world.
- You’ll get to work with a passionate and friendly growing band of PMs, designers, developers and data scientists.
- You'll get a competitive compensation package - salary, perks- and work in an awesome office in the heart of Helsinki.
