The Industrial Engineering and Management Unit (IEM) is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a fixed 4-year term. IEM is part of the Faculty of Management and Business (MAB) at Tampere University and offers education in the fields of engineering at the BSc, MSc and doctoral levels. Researchers at IEM are known for their broad and multidisciplinary collaboration that addresses the latest societal challenges. We take part in multidisciplinary projects with the different faculties and research groups at Tampere University and actively collaborate with other Finnish and international universities and research institutes.

The unifying theme of research at the IEM Unit is sustainable value creation in technology-driven organisations, through which our research is linked to four major global challenges: increasing complexity, changes in the logic of value creation, the need for sustainable development and social change. Our five research groups specialise in the following research areas:

• Project and Service Business
• Profitability Management
• Innovation and Technology Strategy
• Operations and Supply Chain Management
• Safety Management and Engineering

Job description

 Based on her/his expertise, the postdoctoral researcher will join one of the five research group described above. The successful candidate will perform the following tasks in his/her respective area of expertise: 

• responsibility for a strategic development project at the unit level
• responsibility for teaching courses offered by the unit
• carry out independent research of high quality 
• supervise students writing their theses;   
• participation in other activities of the unit and the research group. 

The postdoctoral researcher’s specific teaching and research orientation will be discussed and agreed with the candidate during the recruitment process. 

Requirements:

• experience of research and teaching in the field of industrial engineering and management
• doctoral degree in industrial engineering and management or equivalent;
• ability to manage research projects;
• strong competences in teaching.

The position of postdoctoral researcher requires a doctoral degree, evidence of publication activities. Previous involvement in acquiring research funding (e.g. grants, projects) will be considered as additional merit. We appreciate experience of working with companies. We expect the candidate to be committed to delivering high-quality teaching and have a serious intent to develop as a member of an international scientific community. The position requires fluency in the English language.

We offer

The position will be filled for a four-year period. The planned starting date is 1 June 2025 or as mutually agreed. A trial period of six (6) months applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The position of a postdoctoral researcher is placed on the job demand levels 5-6 (teaching and research staff).

Tuotantotalouden yksikkö hakee tutkijatohtoria neljän vuoden määräaikaiseen tehtävään. Tuotantotalouden yksikkö on osa Tampereen yliopiston johtamisen ja talouden tiedekuntaa ja se tarjoaa tekniikan tutkinto-ohjelmia kaikilla tutkintotasoilla. Tuotantotalouden tutkijoille tyypillistä on laaja ja monialainen yhteistyö, jossa käsitellään yhteiskunnan uusimpia haasteita. Yhteistyötä tehdään monialaisissa projekteissa Tampereen yliopistossa eri tiedekuntien ja tutkimusryhmien kanssa ja oman yliopiston ulkopuolella laajasti muiden suomalaisten ja kansainvälisten yliopistojen ja tutkimuslaitosten kanssa.

Haettavana oleva tutkijatohtorin tehtävä pitää sisällään valittavan henkilön osaamisprofiilin mukaisesti ja rekrytointiprosessin aikana käytävien keskustelujen perusteella seuraavia osa-alueita:

• vastuu yksikön strategisesta kehitysprojektista
• vastuuopettajuus yksikön tarjoamilla kursseilla 
• itsenäinen tutkimustyö 
• opiskelijoiden opinnäytteiden ohjaaminen; 
• muu osallistuminen yksikön ja tutkimusryhmän toimintaan.

Vaatimukset tehtävään valittavalta henkilöltä:

• Aiempi kokemus tutkimuksesta ja opetuksesta tuotantotalouden alalla;
• Tohtorintutkinto tuotantotalouden tekniikan ja johtamisen alalta tai vastaavalta alalta;
• Kyky hallinnoida tutkimushankkeita
• Vahva opetusosaaminen.

Tehtävään vaaditaan tohtorin tutkintoa ja näyttöjä aktiivisesta julkaisutoiminnasta. Näytöt aiemmasta osallistumisesta tutkimusrahoituksen hankkimiseen katsotaan hakijan eduksi. Arvostamme kokemusta yritysten kanssa työskentelystä. Odotamme, että hakija on sitoutunut antamaan korkeatasoista opetusta ja että hänellä on vakaa halu kehittyä tutkijana ja kansainvälisen tiedeyhteisön jäsenenä. Tehtävä edellyttää sujuvaa englannin kielen taitoa.
