We are now looking for a

Master’s Thesis Worker in Textile Coloration with Bio-Based Dyes

Your role and objectives

We are looking for a motivated Master’s student to conduct their M.Sc. thesis in the field of textile coloration using bio-based dyes at the department of Bioproducts and Biosystems (Bio2). This research focuses on sustainable alternatives to synthetic textile dyes, utilizing dyes extracted from agricultural and forest waste streams (e.g., lingonberry, spruce, nettle).  The project is supported by Aalto BioInnovation Center and Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE).

The laboratory work includes:

  • Dye and fabric characterization

  • Textile printing

  • Assessment of fastness properties (wash, rub, and light fastness)

You will conduct your research within the Textile Chemistry research group at Aalto University, under the supervision of Prof. Ali Tehrani, and an advisor from LUKE. As part of a multicultural research team, strong written and verbal English skills are essential.

The preferred starting date is as soon as possible, and the position may be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found. The employment contract will be made for seven months with 75 % working time.

The position is open to Aalto University M.Sc. students who have completed all coursework. Priority will be given to students with a strong academic record and prior experience in textile coloration.

Your background and skills

Requirements:

  • B.Sc. degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, science, or design

  • Completed all coursework

  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)

  • Good laboratory skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in textile coloration

  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
