We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished academic who will be an active and innovative co-builder of the research and teaching in the broad field of RF and antenna technologies. The final profile of the position can be tailored according to your specific expertise and can include, for example, the following themes:
RF engineering, circuit design, simulations, electromagnetic field propagation and interactions
Antenna design, modeling, fabrication and measurements, and integration with RF systems
You will be expected to pursue and supervise world-class scientific research in your topic area. Active collaboration with local, national, and global research partners is expected. You will be expected to secure substantial national and international external funding for your research group as well as nurture interactions with relevant stakeholders for societal impact. The successful candidate is also expected to actively participate in teaching and supervision of students. The successful candidate will collaborate with research groups on information searching and information practices, collaborate between units and faculties, and commit to the strategy of the faculty and Tampere University. The specific objectives will be set based on the level and previous experience of the candidate.
Site description
The position is placed in the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University in the Unit of Electrical Engineering (EE). The EE Unit is a hub of expertise with roughly 200 faculty and staff members, of which 15 professors and 7 tenure track professors. We confer about 90-110 master’s degrees and 14-20 doctoral degrees annually. Our teaching and research activities are based on a profound understanding of electrical and electromagnetic phenomena and their modelling and applications. We work in close collaboration with several industrial partners and maintain an active presence in the international scientific community. We also offer an excellent research infrastructure with state-of-the-art laboratories. The new position is located within the Electronics and Embedded Systems and the Communications Engineering and Radio Systems research areas, with excellent direct collaboration opportunities with our existing faculty members.

Radar and other radio sensor technology
We host world-class research infrastructures comprising versatile campus-wide 5G, pre-6G and mesh-IoT test networks, as well as state-of-the-art RF measurement laboratories with over-the-air signal generation, transmission and analysis capabilities up to 110 GHz. Additionally, we host a large state-of-the-art anechoic chamber allowing high-performance antenna measurements up to 70 GHz. Furthermore, we host state-of-the-art additive and thin-film fabrication facilities including different 2D and 3D printing and deposition technologies, evaporation, and atomic layer deposition.
Requirements
You should have a doctoral degree in the field of Electrical Engineering or a related field and have experience in research in academia in the respective field or fields. You need to be fluent in English in order to succeed in the required tasks. Further requirements for each tenure track level are as follows:
Assistant Professor

Associate Professor

We offer
Initial appointment for assistant professor and for associate professor is for five years. Subject to successful performance, you will become a tenured member of the faculty staff at the end of the first five-year period. You will be well-supported throughout the five-year period to ease transition to faculty positions. Full professors will hold a permanent appointment from the outset. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.
Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. Typical starting salary range will be from 4,400 to €5,000 EUR/month for an assistant professor and from 5,100 to 5,800 EUR/month for an associate professor and from 5,900-6,900 EUR/month for a professor. Higher salaries may be negotiated for candidates with exceptional experience and/or performance.
