We are now looking for a dynamic Customs Compliance Specialist to join our skilled Global Customs Management team. The role is offered as a permanent contract and the preferred location is Vaasa, Finland. In this flexible role, you will be able to work partially remotely in accordance with our hybrid work model.

What will you be doing?

As a Customs Compliance Specialist in the Global Customs Management team, your focus will be coordinating customs-related operations. Your role will involve ensuring customs compliance in Finland according to applicable laws, rules, and regulations. You will also serve as a subject matter expert on customs compliance, providing interpretation, guidance, integration, compliance, and assessment.

Additionally, you will support efforts to maintain a customs-compliant supply chain, coordinate supply chain risk assessment and mitigation strategies, and ensure proactive monitoring and communication (including training) of the impact of customs compliance and changing regulations to all key stakeholders, both internal and external.

Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Being the local point of contact for customs matters for both internal and external stakeholders (customers).
  • Managing relationships with authorities, such as Finnish customs, as a main contact person for AEO authorisation in Wärtsilä Finland Oy.
  • Following up on and coordinating customs clearances, including brokerage management and special customs procedures such as inward processing.
  • Identifying and bringing potential development matters to Global Customs Management.
  • Identifying local value-adding opportunities, minimising compliance risks and import duties, and utilising simplified entry procedures and local clearance authorisations.
  • Ensuring the integration of necessary customs compliance activities into other functions’ work streams to maintain customs compliance reliability.
  • Supporting process development activities and participating in cross-functional development projects.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to bridge possible gaps in the supply chain flow.

The below will enable you to succeed in this role:

  • BSc or MSc in a relevant field or education.
  • A solid understanding of the global and EU-level customs compliance environment, including rules and regulations, with the ability to translate these into clear business requirements and concrete actions.
  • Work experience in addressing customs compliance-related challenges, with a proven track record of resolving them.
  • Willingness to tackle challenging situations with positive reinforcement to ensure sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Customer service-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working in a global and multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Finnish, along with strong presentation and communication skills.
