We are looking for an experienced Windows Specialist to join Aalto University's Digital Workspace team! 

Aalto University has approximately 6000 physical and virtual Windows workstations. As a Windows specialist, you get to support, maintain and develop the university's workstation environment. In terms of support, you operate at the Tier 2 level. As a member of the Digital Workplace team, you also define how workstations are maintained and strive to make the installation and use of workstations and software (e.g. O365) easy for end users. At Aalto, we have a genuine IT spirit. 

Your role and responsibilities in brief: 

  • Maintain Windows workstations with Microsoft Endpoint Manager (ConfigManager + Intune)  
  • You manage Microsoft Endpoint Manager 
  • Maintain and develop the VDI environment (VMware Horizon) and the workstation pools   
  • You take information security into account in everything you do, collaborate with the security team and are responsible for ensuring that workstations and management infrastructure remain secure  
  • Plan and implement  the distribution of operating system updates and keep on-site support and users informed of major changes  

In this position, you will be a key player and your work will have an impact on the everyday lives of Aalto University students, researchers, teachers, and other service staff. As your first project, you will get involved e.g. Windows 11 deployment and Patch My PC automation. The final job description is shaped according to the competence and interest of the person to be selected. 

You will be part of an experienced and inspiring team of 10 people with Windows, Mac and Linux experts. Together, we design and develop the university's terminal device environment.

Ville Pursiainen, Windows Specialist. Ville has been with Aalto since 2009. His duties include responsible for endpoint management and the development of the Windows workstation environment, so he will be one of the closest colleagues to those applying for this position. - "The best part of the job is making the work of thousands of users easier with automation".  

Kristian Hentula, Digital Workplace &; AI Adoption Lead.  Kristian is a newcomer to Aalto by university standards, with less than a couple of years of academic IT career behind him. Kristian is also the team leader of the workstation team. Kristian's experiences in the academic environment have been pleasant. - "It feels like the university gathers very special kinds of people: discussing different topics of work and focusing on tasks is quite inspiring.  And you will get used to a large organization and academic ecosystem."  

We wish you have: 

  • Collaboration and problem-solving skills 
  • Experience with Microsoft Endpoint Manager, PowerShell, and Active Directory 
  • Ability to automate and document solutions made 
  • Finnish and English language skills 

In addition, what will help you to succeed and enjoy your work: 

  • Experience with: Azure AD, Python, JavaScript, Hyper-V, RHEL 
  • Experience in VDI maintenance, e.g. VMware Horizon, Citrix 
  • Experience in mobile device or workstation management with MDM, e.g. Intune, Workspace ONE
