Water and Waste business unit (WAW) is a true end-to-end business as part of Wärtsilä Portfolio Businesses. WAW is a global leader in designing and supplying innovative wet and dry waste equipment and freshwater generation solutions for passenger vessels & conventional waste management and ballast water treatment equipment for all marine segments. WAW has the industry’s broadest product offering to secure beyond compliant operations for our marine customers.

We have now a unique and exciting opportunity for a Director, Business Control for the Water and Waste business, based in Poole, UK. The preferred location for the position is in the South Coast UK, ideally office based 3 days per week.

What you will be doing:

As the Director, Business Control you will play a crucial role in steering the business through advanced financial planning, forecasting, and analysis. You will be the co-pilot to the Managing Director, leading and developing the Water & Waste finance team to reach business targets while actively contributing to the company's long-term strategy. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead, manage, and develop the Water & Waste finance team to reach business targets while contributing to the company's long-term strategy.
  • Ensure accurate and high-quality financial information is reported to support business growth and development.
  • Proactively analyse business opportunities, making proposals for investments, divestments, and partnerships.
  • Recommend actions to protect and improve company profitability.
  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, reporting, monthly closing, and other finance-related activities in compliance with corporate guidelines and IFRS/IAS.
  • Utilize business KPIs to challenge and enhance business performance.
  • Direct and lead the company credit control activities to enhance cash flow and limit financial exposure.
  • Support and lead internal and external audits across the business.
  • Champion new ways of working to improve efficiency and drive employee and stakeholder engagement.
  • Represent the business in divestment processes and lead due diligence activities.
  • Collaborate with senior Water & Waste departmental heads to form cohesive management teams and focus on employee engagement.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Ability to steer the business through advanced financial planning, forecasting, and business analysis.
  • Good understanding of WAW’s customers’ business and high customer focus.
  • Professional knowledge of financial tools, procedures, and guidelines used in Wärtsilä (SAP, QlikView, HFM).
  • Extensive knowledge of corporate governance, forecasting, profitability analysis, credit management, IFRS, internal controls, and auditing.
  • Excellent influencing, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Strategic, long-term approach coupled with monthly and quarterly focus in reporting and business analysis.
  • Strong team player mindset and solution orientation.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to develop others’ potential, set targets, coach, give feedback, and build a strong team.
  • 8-10 years of relevant business controlling work experience in a global and complex business setting.
  • Experience from company controller role.
  • M.Sc. in Finance or Economics
