The Faculty of Social Sciences is a community of about 3,000 students and 450 employees, and its profile is firmly placed at the centre of the Tampere University’s areas of strength: teaching and research in the fields of society and health. The Faculty of Social Sciences is now seeking a University Lecturer to teach and coordinate instruction within the faculty's upcoming Bachelor's Degree programme, "Socially Sustainable Societies”.

The "Socially Sustainable Societies" programme is dedicated to probing and tackling the urgent and relevant need to construct socially sustainable societies. Within this bachelor's programme, students will explore the concepts and foundations of well-being and health, both from historical and contemporary standpoints, with a unique emphasis on the envisioning and establishing socially sustainable societies of the future. A significant aspect of the programme is the introduction of the Nordic perspective on social sustainability, welfare states, cross-sectoral collaboration, and in addressing social inequalities and social determinants of health. 

The programme is conducted entirely in English, serving as a bridge between the Faculty's already well-established and robust units in social and health sciences. The University Lecturer will play a crucial role in shaping and launching the programme, as the inaugural student cohort is scheduled to commence their studies in autumn 2024. 

Job description 

Working under the supervision of the Vice-Dean for Education in the Faculty, and in close collaboration with a curriculum group, the university lecturer will have the following responsibilities: 

  • Delivering core courses within the programme
  • Providing student guidance and supervising thesis work 
  • Taking part in curriculum development and contributing to the management of the degree programme with and in relation to other degree programmes 
  • Leading and facilitating scientific research  
  • Actively participating in interactions with society and fostering international collaborations within the field

Requirements

We seek a candidate who fulfills the following requirements: 

  • Relevant doctoral degree
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality teaching and guidance in English
  • A proven track record of pertinent research publications
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in English communication

The following are considered advantages:   

  • Evidence of involvement in international research  
  • Experience in leading or participating in research projects
  • Experience in international or English-language degree programmes within the fields of social and health sciences
  • Pedagogical studies and other pedagogical achievements, such as teaching development assignments or pedagogical publications
  • Proficiency in the Finnish language

We offer 

Permanent position starting 1 January 2024. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.  

Salaries at Tampere University are based on the Finnish University Salary System for teaching and research staff. The position of University Lecturer is initially placed at levels 6-7 in the salary system and a typical starting salary for the position is 4300-4800 € per month depending on previous experience.

Tehtävänkuvaus 

Yliopistonlehtori: 

  • Opettaa ohjelman ydinsisältöjä 
  • Ohjaa opiskelijoita, tarkastaa opinnäytteitä ja arvioi opintosuorituksia 
  • Osallistuu tutkinto-ohjelman opetussuunnitelma- ja hallintotyöhön 
  • Tekee tieteellistä tutkimusta ja seuraa alansa tieteellistä kehitystä 
  • Osallistuu yhteiskunnalliseen vuorovaikutukseen ja alansa kansainväliseen yhteistoimintaan 

Edellytykset   

Tehtävään valittavalta edellytetään: 

  • Soveltuvaa tohtoritutkintoa 
  • Kokemusta korkealaatuisesta yliopistollisesta opetuksesta ja ohjauksesta 
  • Alaan liittyviä tutkimusjulkaisuja 
  • Vahvoja yhteistyö- ja vuorovaikutustaitoja 
  • Erinomaista englannin kielen taitoa  

Lisäksi ansioksi luetaan:   

  • Näytöt kansainvälisestä tieteellisestä toiminnasta 
  • Kokemus kansainvälisestä tai englanninkielisestä sosiaali- tai terveystieteiden tutkintokoulutuksesta 
  • Kokemus tutkimushankkeissa toimimisesta ja niiden johtamisesta 
  • Yliopistopedagogiset opinnot ja muut pedagogiset erityisansiot, kuten opetuksen kehitystehtävät tai pedagogiset julkaisut

Tarjoamme    

Tehtävä on 1.1.2024 alkaen toistaiseksi voimassa oleva. Tehtävässä sovelletaan 6 kuukauden koeaikaa. 

Tehtävän palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen opetus- ja tutkimushenkilöstön palkkausjärjestelmän mukaisesti. Tehtävän alustava vaativuustaso on 6-7.
