VTT – beyond the obvious.

Do you want to join a young team working to revolutionize the way that the current and upcoming nuclear reactors are modelled? We are building a new Finnish computational framework for nuclear reactor analysis using state-of-the-art and beyond approaches for modelling reactor physics, nuclear fuel behaviour and coolant flow phenomena.

With us you will be responsible for

We are looking for a research trainee to work on computational methodologies for our new nodal neutronics code Ants. Nodal codes are used as day-to-day analysis tools in the nuclear industry for modelling the behaviour of the reactor core. You may also be working with Serpent, a world renowned high-fidelity Monte Carlo neutronics tool developed at VTT in order to generate input data and reference solutions.

The results of the work can be reported also as a Bachelor’s thesis or a special assignment.

We expect you to have

We expect you to have at least 3 years of studies in a relevant field (e.g. physics or mathematics) complemented with basic programming skills including at least some experience on compiled programming languages.

We are especially looking for enthusiastic minds with strong motivation to grow and develop, so you don’t need to tick all of the boxes right now!

As a person you are

You are self-driven and able to work independently. You are willing to learn new things and have good problem-solving skills.
