PROJECT CONTROLLER

We are now seeking a new colleague to the School of Science. The position is permanent and based at the Department of Applied Physics (more information on the department here). We offer an interesting and varied position in a large department in an international environment. You will work with the department's financial team and actively collaborate with academic research personnel and service staff. The office is located on the rapidly developing campus of Otaniemi, with excellent transport links.

Your role

In this role, you will use your expertise in planning, problem solving and coordinating. You will work closely with the departments’ Professors and faculty in managing the daily financial operations of externally funded projects from start to finish. Your tasks include the financial administration such as daily financial issues, monitoring, reporting and annual budgeting of the projects. The financiers of our projects are often Academy of Finland and EU, but also Business Finland, state institutions and domestic and foreign foundations and companies. You will be responsible for the accuracy of the financial information provided and for compliance with Aalto’s and the financiers' financial guidelines and financial terms. If necessary, you will participate in other financial and administrative tasks of the department in collaboration with the department's service team.

Your experience and ambitions

We hope you already have a few years of work experience in financial administration and customer service. A relevant commercial (lower) university or university of applied science degree is considered an advantage. You have good IT skills (including MS Office and financial systems). Since most of the department's staff is international, you’ll need fluency in both Finnish and English.

This position includes customer service and cooperation with academic personnel, your own team, other services as well as external financiers. It is important that you like customer service and have strong communication and teamwork skills and positive attitude. As project controller you will also need analytic and responsible working style, as well the ability to administer many projects at the same time. You have attention to details, but are able to see the pig picture as well. We hope that you are proactive and self-imposed even in times of work pressure. It is easy for you to work in a changing environment, to set goals and to learn new tasks. In addition, you want to develop your skills and ways of working in partnership with other members of the work community.

Aalto University follows the salary system of the Finnish universities. The salary is determined on the basis of the requirements of the job and the personal performance of the employee. The requirement level of the project controller position is 8 (scale for “other staff”). We also offer flexible working times, as well as opportunity to some remote work.
