ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

to work in the vibrant and inspiring community of students, researchers and experts at the School of Science. The position is permanent and located at the rapidly developing Otaniemi campus, with excellent transportation links.

The position is based at the Department of Computer Science (more information here), an internationally-oriented community and home to world-class research and teaching. The department is known for long-term, high-quality and innovative research carried out in cooperation with the world's leading research groups. The department's research covers both demanding theoretical problems and their practical applications. With 42 professors and more than 400 employees from 42 countries, it is the largest department at Aalto University and the largest computer science unit in Finland.

Your role

As an assistant controller, your main responsibility is to support the department’s personnel in financial administration. You will produce financial information to support decision-making and ensure and develop a solid base for the finances of the department. One of your key responsibilities is taking care of the controller tasks of a joint unit of Aalto University and University of Helsinki called HIIT. In addition, you will coordinate the financial operations of for example the Academy of Finland Flagship (FCAI).

As part of your duties, you will participate in budgeting, forecasting and monitoring the various sectors of the department’s operations by delivering calculations and reports related to them. You will work in close cooperation with for example the department’s HR and research support services.

Your experience and ambitions

In this position you need strong knowledge in financial administration and accounting. We hope that you have a few years’ experience in tasks related to financial administration, and a relevant degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in accounting, finance, economics or other related field.  We also appreciate your knowledge of the main funding instruments (for example EU, Academy of Finland and Business Finland).  We expect you to have good IT skills (especially strong skills in Excel and knowledge of financial data systems) and fluent skills in English and Finnish.

This position includes customer service and cooperation with your own team, as well as other services. It is important that you like customer service and have strong communication and teamwork skills and courage to voice your views. As assistant controller you will also need analytic and precise working style, as well as the ability to work independently. We also value a positive attitude. You have the ability to handle challenging situations in a constructive and positive manner and you are used to keeping deadlines. We hope you will challenge our thinking with your forward-looking approach and open up new perspectives.
